Men vs. Women: Bling and Toys
We all know the saying that the older we get the bigger the toys (we like). This edition in the Men vs. Women series is really an extension of the one on Clothes and Fashion. In writing that one, I quickly realized how bling and toys are a big part of our contemporary lifestyle choices and desires. And, I believe that my first instinct that women were more into bling may have been a snap judgment since I tend to think men are more into toys!

The Outside Lands Music Festival Allowed This Old Dude In!
Preamble: I joke that I’m the oldest person on the grounds at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for the Outside Lands Music Festival – this being my third year going with my sons. The only people I saw that were older than me were performers. The first year it was Tom Jones, last year it was Neil Young, and this year it is both Paul McCartney and Willie Nelson. Outside Lands is an amazing experience and I don’t think age should be a determinant of attendance even if the 65,000 attendees could pretty much all be my kids.

Birth of a Filmmaker: Lightning & Thunder
Without a doubt, this film is the birth of a great filmmaker/ cinematographer/director/writer. Some might even say it’s the work of the next Hitchcock, Welles, or Spielberg! The careful palette choice of color, the mixing of sound with such subtlety, and the precision editing are just some of the hallmarks of this work of art. Be forewarned – the ending is a shocker! You can say you were there when IT all began. Filmed On Location in Park City, Utah on August 22, 2013.
I’m Really NOT Twenty Anymore: Attending The Outside Lands Music Festival
Every parent wants to be the “cool” parent – that dad or mom that all the other kids love and want to hang out with. I’m that dad: at least in my mind. The reality is I’m still my kids’ “Old Man” and the sooner I recognize that the better. This experience was driven home recently when I went with my boys, and my son’s girlfriend, to The Outside Music Festival in San Francisco.
Are We too Naked?
Everyone is exposing themselves these days, if not literally then at least figuratively. Discretion in the public sphere is gone. Shame hardly exists when we see figures like Anthony Weiner and Elliot Spitzer right back in the run for public office. Our once trusted and venerable journalists (think Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite) are now mostly pundits and propaganda mongers. Truth takes a back seat to agendas. And, with celebrities, the lack of decorum literally knows no bounds.
