The Entitlement Generation at #DadChat

 The Entitlement Generation

What parent hasn’t thought that their kid was or might be spoiled? Entitled? The Entitlement Generation is NOW – it’s happening in our government – and it’s filtering down to our kids. How do we instill values and a work ethic in our kids? What do you do when you learn that 30% of all school kids steal from stores AND think it’s okay? Do your older kids think that the music they “get” for free online is their entitlement? What about the movies they download “for free?” Oh, it’s just “the man” that they’re screwing? Join us Thursday, August 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET for this important discussion!

Rachel Thompson is our special co-host at #DadChat this week!

THIS is an epidemic. And, ironically, the first time that #DadChat is confronting it. We will just touch the service as I suspect this will be a regular topic – sadly – for years to come.

I Love Travel Except for the Travel Part

Graphic image of TSA search

The title of this column has been a favorite saying of mine for many years. It’s grown more relevant ever since 9/11 and our recent and ongoing economic woes. When I reference “Travel” I am mostly referring to air travel – flying, airplanes airports, and everything associated with that aspect of traveling. It’s become a complete and total pain, in my humble opinion.

Social Media Social Good – Just a Second

Bad customer service comic

We all have those expressions that drive us nuts. For me, it’s “just a second” and “reason why.” The latter is simply bad usage of English and redundant. Either “reason” or “why” is sufficient. Try it and you’ll see, and agree. But, “just a second” has ramifications well beyond poor grammar. No, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s a regular annoyance that relates to something long gone from our world — customer service.

Dad, Sex, Sutton, and Acting

Dad and Son talk about Sutton FosterWell, once again “Dad” doesn’t get it. It really is amazing how much patience “Son” seems to have with him. Since we all KNOW that “Dad” is not me, I can say that it’s also amazing how much patience my wife has with ME! This is our 92nd Because I Said So comic strip – all written by yours truly and beautifully illustrated by Michael Voogd. Stay tuned for our forthcoming Because I Said So book commemorating the first One Hundred!

Sports and Our Kids at #DadChat

Kids and Soccer photoSports and Our Kids is this week’s #DadChat topic on Thursday, July 25 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. I remember when sports were the province of our schools. My parents had little involvement in my participation in sports. Heck, we even got Driver’s Ed in school back in the day. It’s a whole different world today with parents carrying the lion’s share of responsibility for many of their kids’ sports activities.

Men vs. Women: Who Talks More?

Cartoon about gossip

I love this blog series because I get to vent my life-long frustrations with the opposite sex, have fun, and be irrevocably politically incorrect. The irony is that since I know men better, I’m often more critical of my own gender than of those confounding women. And, in the case of this topic, it’s a further irony that I’m by far the bigger talker in my marriage.
