I think it is important to remind readers that “Dad” is NOT ME. That was, in fact, the inspiration for the name of my vlogs, I’m NOT That Dad. But, of course, we try to write funny situations that relate to many of us, and I suppose this can occur to some men!

You all know I like to rant. Just about nothing gets me more riled up than political correct nonsense. And nonsense is just the right word. I took excerpts from a recent radio show, Let’s Talk about Political Correctness, that I had video’d. Though I don’t “do politics,” I can’t help but often speak and write about my disdain for speech codes and the irony of political correctness limiting free speech. You know, rant. My most recent column on this was Diversity, Equality, and Other Four-Letter Words I Disdain. But, this short video will give you a hint at the passion and ire I have towards this subject!
My parents had the greatest love story, love affair of them all! I threw a 50th Wedding Anniversary surprise party for them in June, 1989. This was way before packaged videos of events. I hired a new videographer who basically just “shot” the event. I prepared my own visual presentation at the party and that is what you’ll be seeing in this 14-minute video. I hope you appreciate it. I was once young!
Perhaps the greatest love songs album of all-time and certainly Sinatra’s all-time best!

Love and Marriage was a classic Sinatra song. Its lyrics truly seem quaint and decidedly old-fashioned today. But, my parents lived a love affair that stood the test of time and incredible challenges. Their love affair was a model that was pretty hard for their peers to match and certainly impossible in my generation for both my wife and any of my married friends – at least those that I know well.
I’ve gone off the charts with Valentine’s columns and Because I Said So comic strips this year. I guess I like the true contrast between men and women on their views of this holiday. Special friend Kim Tracy Prince wrote Girl’s Talk: A Woman’s Opinion on Valentine’s Day and I responded with Guy’s Talk: A Man’s Opinion on Valentine’s Day. My column for 12Most from last year is still getting tons of hits, reaching #1 for them this past week – 12 Most Classic Romantic Songs for Valentine’s Day. Finally, we’ll be sharing OUR favorite Love Songs at #DadChat this coming Thursday, February 14th.

I’m sitting in my hotel room at The Four Seasons in Houston after attending a three-day conference, the Dad 2.0 Summit 2013. It was their second year and it was a fantastic event on just about every measurement you can imagine. I attended the first one and that one was also terrific, but as with most things like this, they either grow and get better or wither away. Happily it was the former and this conference just took the best of the last one, added more, and probably has become the standard-bearer for Dad Social Media conferences hereafter.
