Sports and Our Kids at #DadChat

Kids and Soccer photoSports and Our Kids is this week’s #DadChat topic on Thursday, July 25 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. I remember when sports were the province of our schools. My parents had little involvement in my participation in sports. Heck, we even got Driver’s Ed in school back in the day. It’s a whole different world today with parents carrying the lion’s share of responsibility for many of their kids’ sports activities.

HypeMagazine.com header

Okay, I admit it. I don’t get rap and barely “get” #hiphop music. BUT, our special co-host – Jerry Doby of The Hype Magazine this week – Thursday, July 18 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET – not only GETS it, but works in the field, is a dad of ten (yes TEN), and has impeccable credentials to help guide this white dude through the ins and outs of the music that most of our kids and MY kids listen to! We will likely have some cool giveaways for this #DadChat so don’t miss it! Follow Jerry Doby and TheHypeMagazine on Twitter!

My son made this Father’s Day song for me – a #Rap song – and he even says that he knows it’s not my thing! But, it’s still mighty cool!

Teaching Our Kids #Empathy at #DadChat

What is empathyTeaching our kids empathy is this Thursday’s #DadChat topic on June 27 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. EVERY parent knows that our kids tend to see the world through one view – their own. Then they become teenagers and ONLY see it ALL from a self-centered POV. How do we parents teach them to care about others, the world at large, and away from their own immediate needs and wants? That is what we’ll discuss with co-host Marie Roker-Jones this week.

Father’s Day at #DadChat – Dad Heroes

My Dad is a HERO

Last week at #DadChat we took on the very powerful subject of Sexual Abuse with co-host Rachel Thompson. It was heavy, important, and if you were not there, here is the transcript. This Thursday June 13, 2013 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET – in honor of Father’s Day – we are going to celebrate dads by telling stories of either our dads or dads we know that were or are heroes. By “heroes,” I mean not only the big-time heroes like our first-responders and military, but the everyday dad that just did his job and took care of his family – like my dad. We have a couple of prizes to give away as well – read on for details.

Taking ON #SexualAbuse at #DadChat

Broken Pieces - Sexual Abuse

We will be giving away THREE copies of Broken Pieces at #DadChat this week!

No one can accuse #DadChat of shying away from the tough subjects and you don’t get much tougher/harder than talking about Sexual Abuse. We all know how pervasive this problem is and, probably, most of us either know someone or sadly have experienced sexual abuse ourselves. We have a survivor of Sexual Abuse to help us with this sensitive discussion in Rachel Thompson, who will be our special co-host at #DadChat this Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. Rachel is very open and outspoken about her own story and this subject. Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions ’cause she’s going to talk about the hard truth of Sexual Abuse.

We will be giving away THREE copies of Rachel’s book, Broken Pieces at #DadChat this week.

Choosing Hope with a Challenging Kid at #DadChat

Good Boy Roy - Zach Hix

We all read about having a “challenging” child. The challenges can range from simple behavior issues to a wide-range of diagnosed learning disabilities and illnesses. It seems to me it’s hard enough – these days – to raise good kids, period. Imagine when you add the stress of a real illness or a real challenging mental or learning disorder to the mix?

How do you cope? How does a relationship/marriage cope? What if you are doing the parenting alone? How much help is available in the public sphere? Do friends stay or abandon you? Do relatives? Who do you turn to, to simply rant or share a hard day’s frustration? THIS is the topic for #DadChat on Thursday, May 30 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. Prizes tonight – read further for details and images.
