For the past few weeks I’ve been traveling overseas, largely on a cruise-ship. As often is the case, cruise lines bring aboard guest lecturers, usually experts in travel that speak about the places the cruise will visit. But, on this particular cruise, in addition to those ubiquitous and familiar lecturers, they invited an especially fascinating scholar and exceptional speaker, Dr. Robert Schrire. His topics have been loosely related to politics but more specifically about how the past and present will impact our future.

World War Z at the Taj Mahal

Seeing the swarms of people that came through the entrance to the Taj Mahal at Sunset was truly mind-boggling. I know it doesn’t look that crazy busy and crowded but it was and it brought to mind the wild scenes from the movie, “World War Z.” The joy on the faces though is so apparent. And, the colors so vivid. It truly is a wonder of the world!

Poverty and Women

I just returned home from a trip to The Middle East, India, and many countries in Africa. Some called it “The Poverty Tour” while others ignored the abject suffering we saw and focused on the good. There was plenty of both. I’m still digesting it all. Oddly enough, I was VERY strongly struck by the landing approach into Los Angeles, as I passed rows and rows of neatly arranged modern homes and buildings – many with swimming pools.

I recently went on a long and extensive overseas trip that included several stops in India. On a bus ride from the air terminal in New Dehli to our plane, I encountered a young Indian woman. As I am wont to do, I quickly engaged her in conversation and discovered she was going to Goa, where I was headed, for a seaside vacation with her husband, a husband I soon learned that was “arranged” by her parents.
