Finally, a Good Commercial

television commerciais

I’ve often been critical of commercials and their exaggerations (err, “I just misspoke”…sound familiar?) and am happy to report that there’s a really good one out there now! Yes, a good commercial. And, it portrays men in a good light. How novel? How refreshing? How odd?

Men vs. Women: Cars

Hot Babe in Hot Car

I can’t believe I haven’t taken on cars in this series on Men vs. Women! There are such gigantic differences in how we look at, buy, appreciate, and deal with the horseless carriage. In many ways, I think our respective attitude about cars is emblematic of our attitudes about most everything. Again, this is not a right or wrong, just a big difference.

Celebrity Experts

Celebrity experts in Social Media and Politics

I was speaking with a Social Media friend about so-called celebrity experts in the SoMe world. We quickly distinguished between the real knowledgeable person who actually did their own tweets and others that sort of fell into fame for no apparent reason. This topic even came up in a recent #blogchat where someone was negatively talking about a SoMe celebrity who had tens of thousands of followers on Twitter, but followed only a handful himself.

Evolution of Technology – Travel

Travel is for everyone

In this edition of the Evolution of Technology blog series, which is co-written by Professor David E. Weber and myself, we take a look at Travel. How we book it, do it, and live it. Without a doubt, travel has undergone incredible changes since I went to Europe using Frommer’s “Europe on $5 and $10 a Day,” when I was 19. And, we did it, too. I’m going to take the first stab at this column, followed Professor David E. Weber who, as I am writing this, is traveling to and from England.

Kickstarter Gives

Kickstarter CampaignKickstarter is a way that we can all participate in great Social Media projects or, for that matter, any worthwhile project. We have just launched our Kickstarter campaign to fund a coffee-table commemorative book featuring the history of our Because I Said So comic strip, the first 100 strips, and much more. My intention is to give 10% of any earnings to charity since I sincerely believe in Social Media = Social Good. I hope you’ll help support and promote our project. Check out all the cool reward levels – truly something for everyone! At the very least, enjoy the video!

Evolution of Technology – Customer Service

Cartoon about customer service

In this edition of the Evolution of Technology blog series which is co-written by Professor David E. Weber and myself we take a look at Customer Service. I’ve recently spoken about this on my radio show and I wrote a short Social Media Social Good column that touched on this topic as well. However, Professor David E. Weber and I will now take a look at it through the lenses of the past and present. As this series of columns strives to do, we will remember the way it was and, at least with Professor Weber, those memories tend to be mighty accurate and detailed. I have a hard time remembering what I ate for breakfast. So, forthwith, Professor Weber leads off:

Men vs. Women: Bling and Toys

Marilyn Monroe and Diamonds

We all know the saying that the older we get the bigger the toys (we like). This edition in the Men vs. Women series is really an extension of the one on Clothes and Fashion. In writing that one, I quickly realized how bling and toys are a big part of our contemporary lifestyle choices and desires. And, I believe that my first instinct that women were more into bling may have been a snap judgment since I tend to think men are more into toys!

Are We too Naked?

Embarrassment Photo

Look at this closely and you’ll see “it”

Everyone is exposing themselves these days, if not literally then at least figuratively. Discretion in the public sphere is gone. Shame hardly exists when we see figures like Anthony Weiner and Elliot Spitzer right back in the run for public office. Our once trusted and venerable journalists (think Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite) are now mostly pundits and propaganda mongers. Truth takes a back seat to agendas. And, with celebrities, the lack of decorum literally knows no bounds.
