The title of this column has been a favorite saying of mine for many years. It’s grown more relevant ever since 9/11 and our recent and ongoing economic woes. When I reference “Travel” I am mostly referring to air travel – flying, airplanes airports, and everything associated with that aspect of traveling. It’s become a complete and total pain, in my humble opinion.

Golf and Target Shooting
What do golf and target shooting have in common? Not much. I simply had these videos handy. I’ll say – without a doubt – that golf is MUCH more difficult! Oh, that’s my wife golfing.
Sports and Our Kids at #DadChat
Sports and Our Kids is this week’s #DadChat topic on Thursday, July 25 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. I remember when sports were the province of our schools. My parents had little involvement in my participation in sports. Heck, we even got Driver’s Ed in school back in the day. It’s a whole different world today with parents carrying the lion’s share of responsibility for many of their kids’ sports activities.
Dad Seeks Advice
Dad doesn’t know what to do when he gets in trouble with Mom – so, naturally he asks Son! Just like the Men vs Women blog series, Dad gets good advice about the basic differences between the sexes!
YouTube Rant about Bugs Bunny, Looney Tunes, at The Hollywood Bowl
I went to the LIVE Bugs Bunny – Looney Tunes – show at The Hollywood Bowl a couple of weeks ago, It was absolutely FANTASTIC. I made an initial video that had short clips of the event – hardly visible images of the cartoons, along with the LIVE classical (public domain) music played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. I also included fun stories that the conductor told. Within minutes of posting that video, I got that ubiquitous YouTube “warning” (threat) about using third party music without permission. I’ve been “warned” before and certain so-called “privileges” have been taken away – no trial, no appeal – just a fiat from the Gods of YouTube.
That Awkward Phase
I’ve got two teenage boys. I’m watching their respective growth – physically and in asserting their growing independence – with both awe and concern. My older son has changed his “look” repeatedly all of his teen years, mostly with his hair length and color and cut, but lately he’s added tattoos to the mix. His younger brother has largely asserted his independence by acting independent and a bit defiant.
#IRL Means In Real Life
Recently I had a couple of experiences that reminded me of the folly of thinking we have a great social life if we have a bunch of Facebook, Twitter, and other online friends. Yes, “virtual friends” can be meaningful, but nothing trumps meeting and knowing people IRL, aka in real life. In Real Life means face to face, sitting near one another, interacting in real time, and otherwise being a human being. Yes, it’s alien to many of us – especially our kids – but it brings rewards that can’t be calculated by Klout or the number of “likes” or so-called “followers” you might have.
Obesity and Our Pets at #PetRap Sunday
All we hear on the news is obesity, Obsesity, and OBESITY. Yes, it’s a problem. We mostly hear about its dangers for us and our children. But, it is also a big – pardon that choice of words – problem for our pets. If we do not feed and exercise them correctly, they will gain weight just as we do. That’s our topic for #PetRap this Sunday, July 14 – right before #blogchat – at 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. PT/8:00 – 9:00 p.m. ET.
