I have been quite lax in updating this section of the website. My excuse. The dog ate my paper. I’ve got none other than I didn’t feel the need or urge to do this in addition to the weekly e-mail newsletter we send out. You did sign up for it – right up there to your upper left? Please do – you’ll get no spam. But, what is new? I guess for me it’s ALL about Hurricane Sandy and the “natural” reminder of how little we really control and how much we are at God’s mercy and/or our good fortune. My prayers are with the victims. I’m grateful my son – in Boston – is fine and, frankly, I’m grateful I got over my recent minor spat with food poisoning relatively unscathed. Stay tuned. I’ll try and stay on top of this posting more often!
I took the young man that I mentor – Daniel – to a screening of Wreck-It Ralph at The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. We loved the movie, but we also loved playing tourist at the Chinese Theatre, looking at all the stars’ foot and handprints – and enjoying all the tourists there, too. I’ve lived here my whole life, but I still get a kick out of it. BTW, Wreck-It Ralph was absolutely TERRIFIC!

What are we eating? What do our kids eat? California is asking this question via Prop 37 which is simply asking food manufacturers to include when GMOs are in our food. GMOs are Genetically Modified Organisms. This was a passionate #DadChat on Thursday, November 1 with respectful dialogue on both sides of the issue. Sadly, the official transcript is incomplete due to server issues, but below are the rough stats and I know we had over 200 people, participating!
The first article in this new series of differences between men and women took on how we handle money. This one is about how we communicate. As with every article in this ongoing series, I continue to believe that men and women are inherently different, due to our genetics, biology, and to some degree our environment and/or upbringing. However, I don’t believe the latter plays a big factor except when it’s horrific, like in the case of child abuse, severe disabilities, and/or illness.
I often say that “I don’t do politics,” though I’ve occasionally violated that assertion. I figure by touching politics I risk “losing” half my audience. I’d rather be myself and risk losing all my audience. But sometimes, it’s hard to avoid these taboo topics. We actually had a VERY civil discussion on politics at #DadChat recently.

While we all know that “Dad” is NOT me, I actually did cry when I saw “Bambi.” I don’t get scared. This is the first Halloween when I won’t have a kid that is going trick-or-treating. One is away at college and the other, in high school, is going to a Halloween Party.
