How many people use Thanksgiving to reflect on their lives, to express gratitude for their blessings, and to reflect on those less fortunate? As a parent, this is one of those fabulous teaching moments for kids. Of course, prepare the great meal and invite friends and family, but perhaps there is greater good to be had? (Note: Enjoy last years Thanksgiving column, too)

Are You Keeping Up with Technology and Social Media Changes?
I have a confession. When I buy a new tech device, something simple like a digital camera or a digital photo frame, I get all excited at the cashier as I’m buying it. First, because I always buy on sale and am happy at the good deal. Second, because I think I need whatever it is. I look at the box and I get tingles. I then sit it on the seat next to me and gaze lovingly at it when waiting at red lights. On getting home, I cradle it in my arms and take it to my office where I gently place it on my desk.
Where it sits.
And sits.
And sits.
Dad Loves a Birthday Party
“They say it’s YOUR Birthday!” Well, “Dad” is celebrating his son’s birthday party in this week’s comic strip, but I’m celebrating my own today! And, on Monday we celebrate my older son’s birthday – who was my 40th birthday present. He sent me the following birthday present – below – couldn’t ask for anything better!
Old Guy at Outside Lands 2012 #Music
Outside Lands 2012 is an incredible music festival that takes place each summer in San Francisco. This was my 2nd time there. The first time I went with my older son and two of his friends. This time I went with both of my boys. They are old enough that we all went our separate ways. I so enjoyed some of the concerts but mostly I enjoyed the people. This is the first of several videos I’ll be sharing from 5 hours of footage I took.
Bring YOUR #Pet to #DadChat
We talked pets and had a pet photo contest Thursday, November 8 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET. There were THREE winners of a copy of my soon-to-be-published new e-book for best/cutest pet photo! The were @GemWebb, @KimWhix, and @Casudi. The cover is pictured at the bottom of this post. Trey Burley was our co-host. Share in what you missed via the transcript.
#DadChat has been having some HEAVY topics lately so I felt it was time for a lighter night for our community.
Things I Envy About My Kids
We are not supposed to envy our kids or our spouses, for that matter. But, there are a lot of “notsupposedto’s” that just aren’t realistic. Spouses can be competitive while still rooting and loving one another. As with all things kid-related, when it comes to our kids it gets more complicated. There are many things I envy about the things my kids have in their lives, the opportunities that lie ahead, and just being younger and less jaded than me.
