The Entitlement Generation at #DadChat
What parent hasn’t thought that their kid was or might be spoiled? Entitled? The Entitlement Generation is NOW – it’s happening in our government – and it’s filtering down to our kids. How do we instill values and a work ethic in our kids? What do you do when you learn that 30% of all school kids steal from stores AND think it’s okay? Do your older kids think that the music they “get” for free online is their entitlement? What about the movies they download “for free?” Oh, it’s just “the man” that they’re screwing? Join us Thursday, August 1 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET for this important discussion!
Rachel Thompson is our special co-host at #DadChat this week!
THIS is an epidemic. And, ironically, the first time that #DadChat is confronting it. We will just touch the service as I suspect this will be a regular topic – sadly – for years to come.
Constructive Criticism: Can Our Kids Handle It? at #DadChat
One of my columns this week generated a lot of buzz and is worthy of discussion at #DadChat. Can our kids handle criticism – constructive or any form? Your homework for this week’s #DadChat, on Thursday February 21 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET, is to read Constructive Criticism – Are Today’s Millennials too Thin-Skinned to Handle It?
Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child?! #DadChat Post Script by @Faryna
Are parents spoiling their kids? Are you? Am I?
That’s what Bruce Sallan (@BruceSallan on Twitter) is asking. He asks himself in last week’s weekly column, Entitled. Last Thursday, Bruce and co-hosts Charlie (@HowToBeADad) AND Andy (@betadad) asked the big questions at #Dadchat.
Have WE Spoiled Our Kids at #DadChat
We had another intense #DadChat – too many tweets to follow! Thank G*d for @hashtracking and their transcript!
I just wrote a column – Entitled – that certainly address this question of entitlement. Implicit is the issue of our kids being spoiled. And, us too for that matter! Are we spoiled? Are we spoiling our kids? That is our topic this Thursday, May 10 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PST, with co-hosts Charlie aka @HowToBeADad and Andy aka @BetaDad.
Entitled
Where and when did it seem that everyone felt entitled? Entitled to an education, happiness, college, a home, every new tech toy, and a new car now and then, etc. I know the answer, as it was an evolution and change in attitude that began in the sixties, in my opinion. Some might say it began with Lyndon Johnson and his “Great Society” and that may also have been a starting point. But, the sad fact is that Americans have a higher quality of life than any generation, anywhere, any time, in world history.
