One-Half Billion, as in “B,” Impressions at #DadChat
#DadChat is going on two years old and I estimate that we garnered over 500,000,000 “impressions” in 2012. That estimate is likely lower than the reality since #DadChat has become more than a once-a-week hourly get together. Our hashtag is synonymous with parents and added to parent-centric tweets all the time, plus the community is always interacting. It’s a beautiful thing. NOTE: I just did an actual count, using each week’s transcript numbers from Hashtracking.com and the actual number for all of 2012 is 682,000,000 .

THIS Dad is feeling it big-time because my first-born is starting college at The Berklee College of Music later this month. It’s my belief that this topic has too often focused on how moms feel “losing” their kids. Well, dads go through similar feelings…heck we ALL do! It was a busy and fun night: here’s the transcript.
My Empty-Nest Cross-Country Road-Trip to College with Ford
I woke my son up to show him the just-arrived 2013 Ford Flex we got for our trip!
I’m about to embark on a road trip. Not just any road trip but one with my first-born son across America from Los Angeles to Boston to begin college. Not just any road trip, but also a huge journey from childhood to adulthood for him, and from a clingy loving dad to empty nester for me. Yes, I will have my other son at home, but the first one to leave is big. Our home will not be the same and our family dynamics will not be the same. Ford has generously loaned us a fully loaded brand-new 2013 Ford Flex for the drive. We are going in style!

Dad is sad. His first-born is heading off to college. And, he’s now stuck with just “Son.” Ah, Dad’s empty nest.
