WE know that money does NOT grow on trees – do our kids?
They say that the biggest three issues that couples argue about are money, sex, and kids. Perhaps we should take on all three this coming Thursday, August 6 at #DadChat at 6:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. MT/9:00 p.m. ET? For now, let’s concentrate on how money affects us and our kids. How do we teach our kids about money, saving, checking accounts, budgeting, investing, planning for the future, etc.?
One of my joys in life is talking with people wherever I go. My kids used to be completely embarrassed by this trait of mine but now don’t even pay attention. As my boys are entering adulthood and the challenges, options, and choices they will face, I find myself more interested in how young people are choosing to live their lives. More and more, my scientific polling and studies (hardly) seem to indicate less interest in marriage or kids.
Goals. We talk about them, but do we or our kids really follow through and make them and achieve them? That is the topic at #DadChat this Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. MT, 9:00 p.m. ET with special guest Angie Mozilo leading the discussion.

This week’s Moral Question is, “How much should you apologize if the person you’re apologizing to doesn’t accept your apology?”
Lately, a lot of things have been going on in my life. And, my ability to influence them – aka control them – is pretty much ZILCH. What a surprise. I like to quote myself and the title of this column is one of my quotes. In fact, on my website I have a scrolling quote bar right below my name at the top of each page.
I am going through more changes in my life than, perhaps, at any other time. Many of these changes are exciting; many are scary; and some are just sad.
We’re moving. Loads of fun. And, finally after ALL these decades, I’m getting rid of stuff. Much of the stuff was stuff I collected and took pains to keep, store, and take from home to home. Much of it, such as my record and comic book collections were really heavy. I had 25 long and short boxes of comic books, all meticulously catalogued, bagged, and boarded.
This is a tough question because like most moral questions, there are nuances to it. For those familiar with AA and Al-Anon, the idea of rescuing a loved one is front and center. IF your loved one is an adult the general thinking is that rescuing = enabling. However, when do we stop “rescuing” our children? When do they begin to “own” their own actions? Of course I do not mean life and death situations, but forgetting to do homework? Do YOU do it for them?
