Teaching #Leadership to Our Kids at #DadChat – #Giveaways

Where will our kids learn about leadership? From our leaders? Okay, that was a rhetorical question. From our celebrities? Another rhetorical question. From parents that are not present or work all the time? You know the answers to all these questions. There’s a vacuum and those of us still doing parenting must fill it – at least for our kids. We can’t count on schools to do much of anything other than teach a politically correct agenda. So, #DadChat has brought on two experts in this area to help us figure it out and learn how to teach leadership (to our kids). My Awakening at “Spring Awakening” #DadChat

My son recently was the stage manager for a local production of the musical, “Spring Awakening” which he’d declared for a couple of years as his favorite musical. My wife and I had not seen it before this local production and didn’t know the story other than a brief synopsis that our son provided. He was very proud of this particular production so we attended it with great anticipation and excitement.

It was my birthday recently and we were invited to a big gala charity event. Before the entertainment began, my wife was nodding off. When she briefly awoke, she nudged me and said, “Let’s go.” Usually, I’m there right beside her wanting to leave and go home to sleep. This time I actually wanted to stay, but you know the saying, “Happy Wife, Happy Life,” so we left and looking on the bright side, we didn’t have to wait long for our car at the valet!

The other day I had a sobering conversation with a 21-year-old woman. We covered a lot of topics, and when I got to my inevitable probing questions about her personal life and asked if she ever wanted to get married, her answer was a quick and resounding, “No.” The ensuing short exchange sealed the deal for me of how far we’ve come – as far as societal values – in just my own lifetime!
