World War Z at the Taj Mahal

Seeing the swarms of people that came through the entrance to the Taj Mahal at Sunset was truly mind-boggling. I know it doesn’t look that crazy busy and crowded but it was and it brought to mind the wild scenes from the movie, “World War Z.” The joy on the faces though is so apparent. And, the colors so vivid. It truly is a wonder of the world!

Too Much Gratitude at #DadChat

Poverty and Women

I just returned home from a trip to The Middle East, India, and many countries in Africa. Some called it “The Poverty Tour” while others ignored the abject suffering we saw and focused on the good. There was plenty of both. I’m still digesting it all. Oddly enough, I was VERY strongly struck by the landing approach into Los Angeles, as I passed rows and rows of neatly arranged modern homes and buildings – many with swimming pools.

Arranged Marriages Work

I recently went on a long and extensive overseas trip that included several stops in India. On a bus ride from the air terminal in New Dehli to our plane, I encountered a young Indian woman. As I am wont to do, I quickly engaged her in conversation and discovered she was going to Goa, where I was headed, for a seaside vacation with her husband, a husband I soon learned that was “arranged” by her parents.

Men vs. Women: Sex Appeal

Charlie's Angels

We all know that a great keyword is sex. I’ve actually found that money is even better. Hmmm, maybe I should use both? I was having a discussion with a friend about sex appeal and how men and women view each other differently in this regard. In the course of the discussion, I reflected on four women – famous women/actresses – each of whom I’d met and/or worked with in my former life in showbiz.

Embarrassing Your Kids

Funny photo of polar bear

Most parents know that there’s one thing they can do that will embarrass their kids the most. ANYTHING. Simply being dad or mom is embarrassing to our kids. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we’ll stop trying to change our own behavior. It’s impossible because whatever we do, however we change, it’s going to embarrass our kids. To a degree, that’s our job. Maybe they’ll become independent that much quicker simply to get away from our embarrassing actions. read more

Accountability and Goals at #DadChat

Drabble

What does this comic strip have to do with this week’s #DadChat? Nothing, but it’s funny!

Every New Year people make resolutions and every subsequent year they tend to renew the same ones. We are NOT going to do that at our first #DadChat of the New Year on Thursday, January 2 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. PT. Nope, we’re going to simply – funny choice of word – chat about Goals and Accountability. As much as it would seem ripe to make this discussion about D.C. and their total lack of accountability, we’re going to stay closer to home – our families and ourselves!
