#DadChat Takes On Responsibility

Well, I’m back from an incredible trip to The Cariboos, a mountain range where I went heli-skiing for 6 days. Read about it and see the pictures and some videos in my current I’m NOT That Dad and my column, How to Ski Out of This World, which has a link to the Picassa photo album of the best 100+ photos. #DadChat tomorrow – Thursday, April 12 – will be about Teaching Responsibility. The implication, of course, is teaching our kids responsibility but the reality is that we parents model behavior and I would suggest it’s not always responsible. Don’t forget that Guy Kawasaki, who was supposed to appear this week, had to reschedule for May 17. Please plan to come for probably our biggest #DadChat ever!

My Boys Would be Better Off If I Abandoned Them

I suppose the title of this column got your attention. Of course I don’t mean it in any literal sense but I’ve begun a mantra/rant lately that includes this notion. My older son just got accepted to an expensive private college, The Berklee College of Music. For a number of reasons, he/we do not qualify for any financial aid. Upon consulting with my friend Jodi Okun of College Financial Aid Advisors, who helps families with these issues for a living, I learned the reasons we did not qualify for financial aid.

#DadChat from 10,000 Feet

I am staying at a lodge literally in the middle of nowhere at 10,000 feet. We flew to Calgary, took a 7-hour bus-ride to a remote location, and then we were helicoptered to a lodge with another 40 people 10,000 feet up. Wi-fi sort of works here but otherwise we are waaayyy out there. Nonethless, we’ve got a fun new column, Can You Read Your Wife’s Mind? #DadChat on Thursday will be Open Mic and if my wi-fi goes down, I’ve got GREAT #DadChat friends to help with the fun open discussion that is Open Mic! Check out the video from our first day of heli-skiing on that link at #DadChat. What else? Well, next Thursday April 12 we will celebrate #DadChat’s 1-year anniversary with VERY SPECIAL guest, Guy Kawasaki. Do NOT miss it. And, be sure to enjoy the new Because I Said So comic, Dr. Blunder Strikes Again.

Are You a #SocialMedia Addict

Let’s start with the definition of addict (from dictionary.com): ad·dict noun
~~ A person who is addicted to an activity, habit, or substance: a drug addict. Okay, that seems simple enough. I’m addicted to many things, thankfully none of them all that harmful. They include skiing, my kids, writing, eating, and maybe, just maybe Social Media.
