Here’s the topic of the day: Do your kids get allowance?  Do they have to earn it? Money is on everyone’s mind these days and it was a spirited topic during a recent Thursday evening Tweet Chat that I host, called #DadChat**.  Tweet Chats are growing as different communities band together for an hour or so and chat with each other using a name and hashtag (the # symbol).

Money Money Money

It’s hard for me to believe, but after writing more than one hundred “A Dad’s Point-of-View” columns, I’ve yet to tackle one of the biggest issues in families. It is one of the issues that causes more dissension among couples than any others–money.  It’s said that money, children, moving, in-laws, and sex are among the hot-button subjects that are the most likely to create tensions between spouses. Would you agree?

In recessionary times, money can’t help but be on most people’s minds and affect their lives, their kids, and in some 10% of American families, their employment.  How we deal with our finances is indeed a paramount subject and we all look at George Washington and other presidents that appear on our paper bills differently.  Personally, on this subject I prefer Benjamin Franklin.

Just A Guy, His Wife, and Sex

So, last week’s blog was about one of the other three common couple’s argument topics, money, and I thought I’d take on the easier one with this blog – sex.  Yeah, very easy.

While I declared that sex isn’t a big issue in our household, and it isn’t, I also have to admit it is an issue.  There’s a movie quote, don’t ask me from which movie, that goes something like this, “He wants, she doesn’t, he wants, she doesn’t,” which sums up the stereotype thinking on sex between couples. read more
