Remember when you’d return to school, after summer, and the teacher would ask, “What did you do this summer” and you had to get up in front of the class and answer? That is what we’re doing at #DadChat this Thursday, August 15 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET and I’M going to be the teacher — asking you what YOU did this past summer (and what your family did)!
I might have a couple small prizes this week, too – so be there to find out and perhaps win one!
Most of us have plenty of stories of our first love, teen love, and many love stories later on in life. Being the father of two teen boys, I’ve witnessed their social lives, lived a bit vicariously through them, and been reminded about how we all must find our own way. We all must learn our lessons. And, we as parents really can’t and shouldn’t overly protect our children from these valuable lessons. Hopefully, if we’ve raised them right, they will make the right choices and decisions. To me, that’s part of the ongoing serial drama of being a parent!
Professor Weber leads off our look at adding and subtracting – math – and the devices old and new that we employ, in this edition of the Evolution of Technology blog series which is co-written by Professor David E. Weber and myself.
We often use the term technology as a catchall shorthand reference to the microprocessor-driven devices (notebook and desktop computers, mobile telephones and smart phones, tablets, iPods and more) we use for work, play and management of our lives generally. The basic purpose of the chips in the hearts of those devices is to perform calculations. Therefore, to think in terms of the evolution of technology is to a significant extent to think about the evolution in tools used for calculating.
Today’s radio show is inspired by this week’s “A Dad’s Point-of-View” column, Men vs. Women – Clothes and Fashion. We will also talk about Current Events!
Hopefully YouTube will NOT bust me for this clip of what I think may be a public domain song and a CLASSIC – In the Mood. This was a surprise number at the “Dance Fever” concert at Frank Gehrey’s amazing Walt Disney Concert Hall in July, 2013. We had marvelous seats and it was a truly magical evening.
Can it be? Is Summer is almost over? Is it really back to school time? Yes, parents worldwide are celebrating, while kids are moaning and groaning! We have America’s Teacher to help prepare us for this annual ritual. Back again at #DadChat to lead this discussion is America’s Teacher, Angela Maiers, on Thursday August 8 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. PT/9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET.
Do we really have to buy all new school “equipment” and a new wardrobe for our kids? Why have parents become so involved in today’s schooling? What should we do to empower our kids to take charge of their schooling – especially once they’ve begun Middle and High School? We’ll ask these and many more questions at this week’s #DadChat.
Angela has given us this homework for this week’s #DadChat – to read. There may be a pop quiz!
Fashion, clothes, jewelry, and all its related accessories and issues are enough of a subject to fill a book, not just a single column in this blog series. But, I will endeavor to condense the incredible volume of material to fewer than 1,000 words. Writing about Men and Women is a lot of fun, especially since I don’t care if I am politically correct. It’s ironic how upside down things have become in my lifetime when simple truths – in this case, related to men and women – are not so simple given various agendas and politics that seem to attach so much contemporary public discourse!
Last month, I was sworn to secrecy, signed a non-disclosure form, pledged my allegiance to the Gods of Google and Motorola, and my own Godfather, Guy Kawasaki, and went to Silicon Valley to hear, see, and touch the new Motorola phone, the Moto-X.
